Oct 24-27 Mackenna"s First Deer Hunting weekend

I got to the lease on Thursday. The weather was nice. I checked feeders and rode around. It was a good day. On Friday Susan picked Mackenna up and they came to the lease. We had beans and rice along with rabbit gumbo. Kenna loved the gumbo. Saturday morning we hunted and didn't see anything. Susan and Kenna went shopping after we got back. That evening we saw a six point buck. He stayed out but the feeder for over an hour. Kenna really wanted to shoot it but it wasn't a 13 inch spread. She had a hard time understanding the rules cause she doesn't like them. Can"t say I do either because this buck will never make 13 inches. This is the 5 th year of the new rules and we are supposed to see the benefit now. So far with game cameras we have Illegal bucks  7=========== Legal 13 inch  1 (best we can tell as for some reason it didn't pose}. Okay I will stop complaining.---It started raining early Sunday morning. We went out after the rain but didn't see anything.  I carried Kenna home Sunday evening. She had a good time

OCT 17-21 Pleasent Days at Mack Creek

I got back up to Mack Creek early Thursday morning. It was a nice chilly moring. John Callahan was the only person still at camp. He pretty much moves on on Oct 1 and stays till atl least Christmas. I worked on feeders and deert stands. Randy came up Friday to do some bow hunting. On Saaturday John and Jen brought the twins up for a little while. We took them riding on Ranger. They liked it and it put them to sleep before we got back. Eddie showed up also and stayed till Monday. It was a nice quiet few days. With the cooler weather the deer were really moving. We had a buck come up to camp and visit before he decided to leaves us. They will do funny things when there chasing does. I pretty much got everthing done I needed and jsut relaxed and walked the woods some. I left Tuesday to go home and mow yard and to go to the dentist Wednesday morning. Will prbably come back THursday.

Oct 14-17 A Visit To See Peyton

We left Tuesday morning headed to Bryan. It was a nice drive up there. Peyton was glad to see us/. He is a very happy baby. He is starting to make sounds and trying to get in conversations. He is eating and sleeping well. The cold front blew in Tuesday night and it was a drizzling rain most of Wednesday. We took Kristin and Peyton to Franklin to see her grandfather. He has a shop where he restores cars and also a repair shop. He has some really neat cars. Peyton had a really busy day and went to bed early that night. Susan woke him up Thursday morning before we left. He was a very happy baby but was sad to see us leave.

Oct 3-10 Cold Front made it to Mack Creek

Mackenna got here Friday evening. She was ready to go riding on Ranger and to shoot guns.. We did do a little riding that evening . On Saturday moring we put up two ground blinds and rode most of the day. Adam came up and he took Kenna down to the creek to play in it wor awhile. It was still a warm day as the front had not made it in yet. We got the camp pretty much clean up. A new hot water heater was installed for the kitchen so we are ready to rock and roll. We cooked so much food for saturday night and really had a feast. Sinday morning we got up and the temp was 55 degrees. It sure felt good. mWe had a few showers but not much. I built the first fire of the season and it was nice. Kenna couldnt wait  to go riding but she found out that the wind makes it feel pretty cool to ride without a little jacket. We set up a target and I let her shoot a lever action 45 long colt carbine.  Her first shot was perfect but after that she was flinching a little bit. I thinke it was more the noise than anything else. I also let her shoot my 9mm pistol. later that evening I took her to meet her Dad to go home. Most everyone went home Sunday evening except for a few of us. It was nice the next couple of days just piddleing around camp, working on feeders and walking the woods.I went home on Wednesday. Hope to be back Saaturday.

Waiting for the Cold Front-----Sept-0ct 3

We have had lots of rain here at the deer lease. Mosquito's are tough in the woods but not too bad around camp. I have got several feeders going. We have really enjoyed riding around the lease in "Ranger " . I did get all the rye grass patches disked up and ready to plant. We should get some pretty rye grass patches this year. I still have a little mowing to do and also need to put in a new hot water heater in the main camp shed. Susan is going to meet Kristi today and pick Mackenna up. She should have fun shooting guns and riding "Ranger".  The first nice cold front should be here tomorrow. I just can"t wait.

SEPT 30-----Mack Creek Will Be Open

No matter what the government does Mack Creek will be open. We moved in today for the season. I came up early this morning and Susan came later in the day. We got much needed rain on the weekend but it sure is wet. Give it a couple of days and it will be dry again. I piddled around all day just trying to get a few things done. I am sure mosquito's will be bad in a few days but not bad today. The evening turned out to be very pleasant. We had a nice breeze and the humidity was low. We started Happy Hour around 5 and just visited. When it got close to dusk Kenneth/Barbra & Susan/Me took a ride around the lease in "Ranger" which is our new four seater ATV. We saw a lot of rabbits but no deer. It just was a good day at the deer lease.
