Feb 13, 2015 Travel Day and Home

It was 32 degrees when I got up this morning.A norther blew in last night and the high today was only going to be 51. Our plans were to head to near Biloxi, Ms for a few days. Since the weather looked bad I told Susan that we should just head toward home probably stopping near Baton Rouge for the night. We were on the road by 8. We stopped for brunch about 10 just inside the Mississippi border. Fueled up and cruised on down the road. We got to Baton Rouge and I told Susan that I feel good and we should just trot on home. She agreed and we headed on. We stopped in Lake Charles and ate at her favorite place Steamboat Bills. Yes the hot spicy boiled shrimp were good. We made it home about 6. Traffic was good for us all the way home. I am glad we were not headed east as traffic was really stacked up in Baton Rouge and again in Beaumont.  Anyway another good trip but we are glad to be home.

Feb 12,2015 Our Last Day at Fort Pickens

It was a nice sunny day today. The temperature warmed up but the winds picked back up. We just piddled around and I decided to go to the Navel Air Museum. Susan found a quilt shop and I dropped her off and then headed to the address of the museum. It was on the Naval Air Base and on the approach in the visitor lanes there was a sign that said no weapons allowed. That was a problem for me as I was carrying my 9mm on me and also had another gun in the truck. I didn't know the museum was on the air base or I would have done something different. I made a u-turn and headed back to Susan. I went ahead and filled up with diesel since we were leaving tomorrow. When Susan was finished we headed back to the trailer. I took a little nap and then Maggie and I did our usual walk. Later I loaded up most of my outside things in the truck. We have had a good trip but it has been cooler than normal. Thank God for global warming or we might have really been cold.
Clear and cold today

Feb 11, 2015 Sunny Day, Nice Sunset

It was a pretty sunny day. We took a nice bike in the morning. They have some nice trails to ride here. The wind was hardly blowing early in the day. We ran to Gulf Breeze and did some shopping. When we got back Maggie and I took a long walk thru a marsh trail. We saw one armadillo but no other small ground critters. There are lots of birds here and several Osprey. The military planes were doing a lot of flying streaking thru the sky. We went to the beach for the evening watched the sun set. It was a little cool as the wind had picked up.There was a big crowd of maybe 8 old people down there watching.  Always neat to watch the sun disappear in the water.

Feb 10,2015 Windy Travel Day to Fort Pickens, Fl

We woke up to a windy cold morning. The wind had definitely shifted from the north.Glad we didn't have to leave early. Our drive today is only 3 hrs. We left and had a nice easy drive with lots of scenery. We got set up at Fort Pickens in a nice sunny spot. In the winter here you look for sunny spots instead of shady spots. We decided to run into Pensacola to get some seafood to grill. We went to my favorite seafood market, Joe Patti's. Its a great place with reasonable prices. We got enough for two nights. When we got back we built a little fire and basked in the sun. For supper I grilled grouper, sea scallops, and shrimp. Yep, it was good..

Feb 9,2015 Rainy then Sunshine

It was was a dreary morning. The temperature was warm but we had a slight drizzle. We watched the fishing boats head out again. After it quit Susan washed our clothes and we just sat by the water.Maggie and I took a nice long walk. When I got back we ran out to fill up the truck and get a few things. Tomorrow we head to Fort Pickens. After getting back I rode my bike to the beach. Susan didn't go as she had a little back pain, It turned out really sunny. I walked in the water for awhile and then just sat for a little while. On the way back I was riding out of the parking lot and I saw a nice 10 pt buck cross the road. He wasn't in a hurry but I couldn't get my camera on him in time. Later on the way back a little fawn stepped out to feed. It wasn't scared of me at all. After getting a few pics I left it still feeding. That evening I built a little fire, cooked supper and retired for the night.

Feb 8, 2015 Another Really Sunny Day

This is the prettiest day we have had. Not much wind and lots of sun. It warmed up nicely. When I got up and took Maggie out she was wandering around while I looked for her lease she started barking. There was a  doe and her yearling looking at her at about 5 ft. I eased over and picked her up and the deer didn't even move.I took Maggie to the front of the trailer for her little walk. The deer were still there when we got back. I had seen  tracks but the first time I have seen any deer. This island isn't real big and I didn't expect any deer here. Later in the morning Susan and I biked the park. We looked for gators in the small freshwater ponds but didn't see any. We went into town later and went to a few shops and had an early supper. We came home and built a fire for the evening..  .

Feb 7,2015 This is a nice Park

Dadgum, it was cold again this morning 36. Until the sun got up there was no wind so it didn't feel too bad. I watched the big fishing boats head out for the day.As the sun rose so did the wind. I cooked breakfast and then we drove around the park to figure out where everything was. It is a big place with lots of camping spots. We went to the beach for awhile and it was nice. Hope its warmer tomorrow and I will spend more time there. When we got back to camp we drove into town to pick up a few things like firewood. This park has two stores but they are closed till March. You have to go to Publix ( a big grocery chain) to buy firewood. I figured they would high but actually they were reasonable. When we got back we put our chairs in the sun and sat outside. Our neighbors came over and visited. They live in Seattle and have been on the road since last July. They are heading to Arizona where they are going to rent a place for a year. If they like it ,they plan on moving there. Seems lots of old folks move to Arizona. Later I built a fire and we sat and watched all the boats come in at dark. It was really a nice evening.

No quilt shop today
