July 30 2015 Just Another Nice Day

It was a beautiful morning again about 49 with a light wind. It was a really nice sunrise. I built a nice fire and we sat outside for most of the morning. We had lots of humming birds coming to the feeder. We are surrounded by nice meadows and forest but we haven’t seen any animals such as deer, elk, or bear. We went down the mountain so we could get cell/internet service. After checking things out we drove up to a original homestead  built in 1878. We couldn’t go inside but it was a neat place. We went back home and chilled. Susan has a friend who lives in Salida named Cup. She met us in Lake George and Susan went home with her. I will get her tomorrow. Maggie and I spent the evening looking for critters but didn"t see any.

July 29, 2015 A Very Cool Day

It was a cold morning when I got up. I had to turn the furnace on to warm up. The wind was blowing to much to have a fire. After piddling around we drove down to Lake George and had breakfast. We then came back and sat out for awhile. The wind made it a little cool to sit long so we went in. Susan did some sewing and I read a little and took a nap. Later in warmed up some and we sat outside and watched the hummingbirds. Then we took a little ride on down the forest service road we are on. There is just some gorgeous views and pretty meadows. Lots of flowers still blooming. Later that evening I grilled hamburgers and we chilled out.

July 28, 2015 On The Move

When I got up this morning it was 42 degrees outside and 52 in the trailer. I put the generator on, started my coffee and the furnace. The furnace didn’t get hot so I checked my propane bottle and it was empty. For some reason propane always go empty during the night. I swapped bottles and we were in business. We were in  no hurry this morning and got on the road about 8. We stopped at a rest stop on I-25 to dump. Well there wasn’t one so don’t believe everything  on the Internet. We headed on down the road. We drove thru some pretty country. We stopped at Eleven Mile State Park to dump and fill our water tank. We headed on up the mountain to some dispersed camping in the National Forest . We found a nice site and set up. We have some good views and I think we will like it here. We will probably stay here till Sunday or Monday.  We have a little cell service but not enough for Internet. We can get satellite tv. I will have to go somewhere to download my blog.

July 27,2015 Ugh, Laundry Day and Getting Ready to Move

I slept poorly last night but got up early. No mouse, maybe he has moved on.It was a nice morning about 55 degrees. We had to go to town and do our laundry. We ate breakfast there while our clothes were washing. I went to a car wash and cleaned my truck and then filled it up with diesel. We are moving tomorrow. We are headed south probably in the mountains near Eleven Mile in Colorado.. There are some nice dispersed camping there. Susan did a little sewing and then started to put things up for traveling. I got all the outside done so I wont have much to do in the morning. We are sad to leave this area, its been great and the weather has been fantastic

July 26 2015 Heat Wave Today

I got up pretty early today and we had our warmest morning temp about 58. I found no mouse in the glue trap and no sign of the mouse. Maybe he has moved on. We had bluebird skies this morning and a very light wind. I decided to cook breakfast this morning so I decided to move the field mouse nest to somewhere else besides my cooker. Well when I opened it up it was just an empty nest, I guess she decided to move her family somewhere else. We did a little ride thru the country and then came home. Susan did some sewing and I took a nap. It really warmed up today, the temp hit 80 degrees. We actually had no wind for about 4 hrs. I built our evening fire and then the winds picked up. It was still a nice evening.

July 25 2015 We Just Relaxed Today

The mouse won round 1 last night. He got in the glue trap but the pad fell off the counter and he got away minus his tail. I will keep trying glue trap for a couple of nights and then move to a real trap. We were both so tired from running around the last two days we planned on staying home to day. I was up early and the morning was so nice I stayed outside. It wasn't quite as cold as it had been in the mornings only about 55. When the sun comes over the mountain ridge we have to drop the awning down low to keep the bright sun out of our eyes. Finally I decided to cook some breakfast. When I opened the propane cook top I was surprised to see a nest. A little field mouse had built a nest and had little ones. I left them alone and told Susan I would move them in a couple of days. We just microwaved some scrambled eggs and frozen sausage. We took showers and headed to Laramie. I dropped Susan off at a quilt shop and I headed out to fill my water bladder. After that we headed back home. I hooked my little pump up and filled the water tank on the trailer. We usually last 4-5 days on a tank. Susan did some sewing and I took nap and then watched a movie on tv . The cows came up and visited us for awhile. We made one short drive thru the countryside and then I built a fire for the evening. It was our first night to have very light winds and it was nice outside. We watched the sun set and called it a night.

July 24 2015 Riding the Mountains

I usually get up early every morning. I set my alarm for 5 just in case I didn't wake up. Well my alarm didn't go off and I didn't wake up till 5:30 We needed to be in Albany at 8. We rented an Arctic wildcat for the day. We still had plenty of time but I like to leisurely drink my coffin the morning. Susan got up and was packing all our supplies for the day. She found that some little critter had been on our counter. It looks as if a mouse has gained entrance to our trailer. We will have to set a trap tonight. Anyway we left about 6:30 and got there about 7:45. It was a really cool morning so we were bundled up as we left. The Arctic Wildcat is a two seater and much smaller than our Ranger. We spent all day riding trails and roads. There were several lakes and different creeks we went by. We found lots of dispersed camping and a few usfs campgrounds. We only saw one mule deer for wildlife. We really had a good day but were tired when we got back. As you can see in some of the pictures the pine beetles have hit this area pretty hard. On the way home I stopped and picked up a couple of glue traps for mice. Hope to catch him tonight.

July 23 2015 Road Trip Across the Snowy Range

It was another crisp morning here. We had a very light wind so I built a fire in my little fire pit. It was just enough to get the chill off. Maggie hunted for the gophers but still hasn't caught one. A little later a small group of cows came to visit. Susan slept pretty late but when she got up she wanted to take a drive thru the Snowy Range. We moseyed up there and looked at the sights. There are some pretty little lakes up there. We drove to the other side  and went to Encampment,Wy. We ate lunch at the Bear Trap Bar and Grill. If you are ever  there be sure to stop and eat. Susan and I split the Bear Trap Burger and it was all we (mostly me) could do to clean our plate. We then headed back. We stopped in Centennial and got some ice cream. It was a good day bit I didn't take many pictures. Tomorrow we plan to go up near the Snowy Range and rent an ATV for the day, should be fun.

July 22,2015 Just Another Day

I didn't sleep good last night which is unusual for me. I was up around 5:30. It was about 49 outside and about 54 in the trailer. I put the furnace on and went and started the generator. Started the coffee and let Maggie run around. There is a prairie dog close here that's she has been trying to catch.Susan got up pretty early also.We watched a little news on the tv and then we sat outside watching the scenery. We watched a few cows graze by.All this land we are on is government land and is leased by ranchers for cattle. After breakfast we ran into Laramie. Its about 20 miles and the closest place for me to get gas or diesel. I filled my gas cans for the generator and we made a quick stop at Walmart and headed back home. We did some more exploring the back country. There are many lit let roads that I wont take my truck down. This is really pretty country and the pictures don't do it justice. Arriving back home Susan did some sewing and I piddled around. We got another little rainstorm and then it cleared up. We had a nice evening fire.
