July 23, 2017 Im Hollering Calf Rope

Well the heat wins. We decided to head home tomorrow. While the mornings are really nice it gets to 101 by 1:00 and is still 97 at 7:00pm. That's just not pleasant  to us.. We definitely will not stay in Texas next summer, I'm pretty sure the rocky mountains will win. Again the morning was great and we sat outside till about 11:00.  The water was once again great to float in. We came in and cleaned up , had a little lunch , then we headed to the Mammoth Site here in Waco. It is now a small National Park.  The dig site is fully enclosed and air conditioned. It has a full grown male mammoth skeleton intact. Also a female mostly intact along with some young ones. There is also a camel skeleton and various other bones. Its an interesting tour and a fairly recent discovery in 1978.   We went back to the trailer and spent the evening watching movies. We did get some scattered storms around us but no rain on us.

July 21, 2017 Its a Dry Heat

It was a really nice morning. I got up about 5:15. It was about 77 outside with a nice breeze. It felt really nice after yesterday.  Maggie and I sat outside all morning and Susan joined us when she got up. As the sun came up in the sky we had to move  our chairs to stay in the shade. Around 9:00  I cooked us some breakfast.  It  was a quiet pleasant time. As it warmed up we took our floats and went swimming. The lake is really nice. When we got out we actually felt a little chilly. It only took about 20 minutes for us to dry out. We went inside and cleaned up. There are a couple of other COE parks on Lake Waco so we thought we would check them out. While we were riding around the alternator on my truck went out. Susan looked up auto repairs places on her phone and found one with good reviews and we headed there. They checked  and cleaned all my battery cables and wires and then checked alternator output. Yep needed new one. They got one in and we were back on the road. We probably waited 2 hours which wasn't bad in my book for just showing up. Dunn's Auto was just as good as the reviews said. We then proceeded to check out the other parks. A shady spot is more important than a waterfront site because of the heat. We found a couple of nice places. We headed back home around 4:00.  It was 101 again and with the trailer being in full sun the ac was struggling. We both took a little nap. Susans allergies were bothering her so she stayed in while I hit the water. The only way to stay cool is to stay in the lake. It doesn't really cool off much until around 9:00 pm. I know I learned a lesson this year about summer camping in Texas. Never again.
A nice morning

July 22, 2017 Another Scorcher

It was a really nice morning. We had a good breeze blowing and Maggie and I took a nice walk. The loop we are in is now full except for one spot. This is a really pretty campground. Susan came out when she got up and we just chilled until about 9:00. I then cooked some breakfast and we went to the lake and floated for awhile. There were a lot more boats on the water today with it being Saturday. By noon the temperature had already hit 97. We took a nap and just watched a little tv. We left about 3 to drive around Waco. Susan found a quilt shop to check out. It made 101 while we were out. We drove by the Magnolia Market and Silos but didn't get out as it was just to hot to walk around downtown. Waco is a nice little town. We headed back to the trailer. Its just too hot to enjoy yourself outside.

July 20, 2017 Lake Waco

I finished loading the trailer this morning. Is just been to hot to do much in the evening. We only have about a 4 -5 hr drive to Waco. We got on the road about 8:30.  Our first stop was at Stripes to get Susan a coke and me some tacos for breakfast. We had an easy drive and made our next stop at Woody"s Smokehouse in Centerville. I wasn't hungry so we didn't eat but they have good BBQ and lots of good meat. We made it to Airport Park on Lake Waco and got checked in. Our Garmin got us close but not exactly cause she had us turn once where there was no road, just pasture. You cant rely on signs because their aren't any.  We got set up on our site and turned the AC on first. It was 97 at 12:30.  The humidity is much better here than home but its still hot. We got in the water as quick as we could and it is  nice. You dry off pretty fast when you get out. The temperature got to 102 and the trailer was struggling to cool off. At 8:00 it was still 98 degrees. Yea, its a dry heat and its Hot. If we didn't have shade it would be unbearable. We were tired and the trailer finally cooled off. This is a pretty park and not a lot of campsites. We drove around and checked the spots with lots of shade. Not may waterfront spots that have shade that will cover your trailer. Any way we will see what tomorrow brings.

July 1-9 2017 Its Been Hot, Peyton and Luke Visit

I have to question my sanity, I'm not sure what I was thinking when we decided to stay in Texas this summer. The temperatures have been only in the low 90"s but the heat index has been 105-108. We have had lots of rain and the grass grows fast. I used Lil Johns zero turn mower to mow my yard twice, finally got the hang of it and it is faster than my lawn tractor. I did get my lawn tractor back together and I'm happy about that. It finally dried up enough to get the pasture all mowed. On the 4th we went to John/Jens for the day. They have moved onto their new house and it is very nice. John cooked ribs on the smoker and they were very good. We didn't stay till dark but they had lots of fireworks to shoot.  Kyle/Kristen and the boys came down for a visit. Peyton and Luke played hard, the heat doesn't bother them. Susan is packing as she is going to a quilt retreat for the next eight days. I have a lot of things to do like wash the trailer and get ready for our trip to Lake Waco. We have a waterfront site and hopefully some shade trees, it will be hot but its a dry heat. (Ha Ha).
