Jan 21-22 Made it Back Home

Monday morning Susan and I drove over to Lake Corpus Christi State Park. We just wanted to look around and see what sites they have that we would like. It is a nice park but older and not a lot of sites on the water that we could fit in.  The lake was full and very pretty. We left there and drove to Alice to do a little grocery shopping. That evening we cooked backstrap, mashed potatos, and gravy for supper. Tuesday morning we left about 8:00 am and headed home. We had a nice drive and not a lot of traffic.  I included some inside pictures of Adams little guest house.

Jan 19-21 South Texas Hunting

Saturday morning Adam and I went to a friends lease down in Freer Texas. A cold front had arrived and the wind was blowing 20-30mph. We were on about a 4500 acre lease.  Eveyone thought that with the wind we might not see many deer.   We got there around 10:30. There was six of us total and we rode around on Rangers putting out some feed and looking around. Its rough and thick country. Even with the wind I saw plenty of deer that evening. I was shooting cull bucks. I killed a nice old 8 pt. with about a 19 inch spread.  That night we sat by a good fire and ate like kings. We had a full moon and it was so pretty. I thought that Sunday morning we might not see much because of that full moon but I was wrong. I saw about 9 does and one nice 8 point with about a 22 inch spread. He was probably about 5-6 years old. Not considered a trophy but I let him walk ,  that width is a good gene to pass on in my book. We pack up and headed home about 10. We all went to Robstown to a little pizza place for a late lunch.  When we got home we took a little nap. we watched football games all evening. I had taken a camera to get some good pictures but evidently the sd card was bad as the images were screwed up so all I have are a few camera phone pics.

Jan 17- 18 Adam"s

Thursday Adam worked from home. A friend delivered materials for a new shed so that he has a place to put his new boat in. Susan went to Mathis to have lunch with a friend she used to work with in Barbers Hill. I just piddled around. That evening Adam and I went riding on the Ranger just looking around. Later we sat outside on the porch until bedtime. It was a drizzly overcast day Friday morning.  We left abut 10:30 to head down to Port Lavaca to look at Adams new boat. It is a 25 ft Mowdy.  It is a custom built boat in a shop in Port Lavaca. We met the part owner and manager Robbie and also the rest of the employees. Robbie gave us a tour of how the boat is built from start to  finish.  Of course it rained on us the whole time we were there but we really enjoyed it, Adam gets to pick his boat up in two weeks. They build about 50 boats a year here. We then headed back to Corpus Christi and met Andrea after she got off from work. We went to Saltgrass for supper and headed home. We had a little happy hour and met their neighbor June.

Jan 16, 2019 Traveling to Adam"s

We got on the road about 9:00 am headed to Robstown.  Adam actually lives between there and Callahan.  It drizzled and rained all the way down. We stopped in El Campo and ate lunch. With GPS we arrived at Adams about 3:00 pm. I really like his place, its quiet with a few houses around but mostly farm land and ranches. The whole place is fenced so we let Chester out and him and Maggie roamed around. We are staying in the guest house and it is really nice. Adam got home around 4. We took his work truck in for some repairs in Callahan and then drove around the countryside. We stopped at a friends place. He has a 100 acres and it sure is nice. He has put a lot of work into it. There is even a little buck that has adopted them. His place is low fenced but the little buck comes to the house all the time. Andrea got home about 6:30 and Adam fixed tacos for supper..It was an early evening for us as we were tired.

Jan 4- 11 2019 Time to Wind down at Mack Creek and Move Home

I spent the day Friday at home just piddling around. I picked up  my deer meat up from Chubbys Meat Market. I also got some stuffed pork chops (boudain) for supper and they were sure good.  Saturday morning we were on the road by 6:am to Mackennas volleyball tournament. It was a competitive day with lots of ups and downs. They won 2 and lost 1.  We got home about 3:30 pretty wore out.  Sunday morning I headed to the deer lease and Susan headed to a quilt retreat. It was the last day of deer season. I checked my game cameras and still just had night pictures. We had clear blue skies and it warmed up during the day. The loggers were back but they didn't bother me but I didn't see any deer. Monday morning I did some squirrel hunting, Every year I start with a .22 and then reality knocks me down, I need a shotgun.  it was Squirrels 5 Me 0.  It turned out to be a really nice day, sunny with a high of 72. That evening Callahan and  I rode around and put what corn we had left in feeders. Tuesday morning I rode around and closed up a couple of my deer stands. When I got back I changed out my power converter in my trailer. I have been putting it off but the time has come. Its not complicated but its time consuming. It kills my back because its located in a outside compartment and you have to stay bent over to work. Three and half hours later I was back in business. Later that evening I started getting my trailer ready to roll. Lots of outside stuff to put up .Wednesday morning I loaded up the Ranger and 4-wheeler and headed home. I left camp behind  a loaded log truck. That way I didn't have to worry about meeting a truck coming in. The road was very slushy in places. It needs to dry some before I try to get my RV out. Thursday morning I went to the Dr to a checkup. I had to get my blood pressure medicine adjusted. When I got home I started cleaning the Ranger and 4_wheeler. I headed back to the lease Friday morning. The sun and wind from the last two days had really dried the road out and it was in good shape. I got mu rv hooked up and headed home. Somehow managed to miss any log trucks on the way out. I am now officially moved home.

Dec31-Jan 3 The Last Week of Deer Season and RAIN

It was a rainy day for New Years Eve. We had thought about going to the movies but Susan couldn't find one she liked. Instead we went to Silsbee to a Bernina shop. Susan had a machine that needed updates. This is where she bought her last machine.  There is a shop in Humble she used to go to but we like the drive to Silsbee better. On the way home we did our fine dining at Dairy Queen in Sour Lake. . That was our exciting new years eve. I got up and went to the deer lease New Years day. It was a pretty day. The loggers were not working so I rode around looking at the work they had done. It was pretty boggy in places. That evening we had ham, black eyed peas, corn bread and cabbage. A good start yo the new year. It was a light mist when I got up Wednesday morning. The loggers started in about 5:00 am. By daylight it had started to rain. No one went out in the morning. it slacked off a little by evening. It started again about 7:30 pm. Susan called about 8:30 and said I had a water well problem . I told her to shut the breaker off on the pump and I would come home the next morning. When I got up Thursday morning it was pouring.  I sat by the fire until about till about 9, then it finally slacked off and I loaded up and went home. The water line into the house a leak, it was an easy fix. It stayed overcast all day and I just chilled at home. Not sure of my weekend plans as both Mackenna and Ashley have volleyball games.
