Feb 3,2015 Cedar Key Manatee Springs

We had a busy day today. It was cold and windy to start the day. We went into Cedar Key and had breakfast at Annie"s. Its a nice little place.We then went to the old part of town where Susan went to a quilt shop.I walked the streets looking at the old buildings and went to the harbor. I picked Susan back up and we went to the new part of town where there are restaurants and a few shops. We left there and headed out to Shell Mound. They have a little campground there we wanted to check out. Its remote and I like that. Also easy access to the water for my kayak. Leaving there we headed to Manatees Springs State Park to look around.Its a pretty park located just off the Suwanee River. It has a nice boardwalk thru the swamp to the river. There is also a underground spring which feeds in to the river. The manatee's come into the spring where the water is warmer.We only saw one, .at first I thought he was a rock on the bottom. There was a lady there and she said it was real. Just watch and every 7=8 minutes he will come up for air. Well he did and proved he was no rock. You can actually swim in the springs but it was too cold a day.This a park we could consider staying at sometime. We also saw lots of deer. After seeing a snake in the water Susan said she wouldn't kayak here due to alligators and snakes.After leaving we headed home. Maybe raining tomorrow.
