It was a cool morning and I waited till 6 to get out of bed as I couldn"t start my generator till then. It was bout 40 degrees, Its supposed to hit the upper 80's this evening. I cooked a little breakfast and then we headed out for the day. Our first stop was a little quilt shop i Grand Lake. Maggie and I walked around while Susan shopped. This year you have to have reservations to enter RMNP. Our entry time was 11-1. We hit the gate right on time and actually it was pretty quick getting in. The devastation from last years fires were evident from the start. There is a lot of grass and flowers coming back in the valleys but not so muxh higher in the slopes. After a few miles we got out of the burn area and the scenery returned. Its a majestic drive across the top of the Rockies. Once we got on the alpine part Susan did not enjoy the ride The little two lane road and the drop offs with no shoulders did not amaze her. Even though we have driven this before she was a little stressed. The views were awesome. Pictures don"t do it justice, I didn"t get any pictures while driving. We headed back down and stopped at a little picnic area to have a packed lunch and let Maggie run around. When we got back to Grand Lake we stopped for ice cream. Back at the trailer it had warmed up and with no shade the trailer was hot. We put the Predator 3500 on and turned on the AC. Later we drove up to some dispersed camping to see if the only spot we could fit in opened up. It had not and probably wasn"t going too. That evening we decided to move back up into Wyoming instead of heading down thru the Colorado mountains, they were predicting rain and flash floods thru-out the weekend. Thursday morning we got up and head north up 125. The fires from last year devastated much of the canyon we drove thru. It was still a nice drive but you could see the mudslide areas in the burn areas which causes road closures. We stopped in Laramie and dumped our trailer and filled up with water. We headed to our favorite area off of Happy Jack road to boondock. Our favorite spot was taken and I walked to our second spot and it was taken. I got the trailer turned around and we got back on the main gravel road and headed to some other spots we knew about. We found a good place and set up. We have some good views and a nice big area. The weather was cool and windy. This is my kind of camping, not another trailer in sight. We both took naps and just enjoyed being here. I barely got supper cooked when we got a small hail storm and rain. It stopped before dark and we had a pretty sun set. We are high and dry so flash floods won"t affect us. Also we can get to the main paved highway if need be.
