March 26,27 2022 A weekend of deer lease and volleyball

Saturday morning Kevin and I headed up to the deer lease. We are extending our little camp shed. I had shopped lumber prices at Lowes, The Red Barn, Potez and Mccoys , good lord prices are out the roof. We ran into Livingston and picked up lumber, screws and paint. The little bit of lumber was $200.00 alone. This just for the frame of a 16 x 8 extension. Luckily we already have the tin for the roof. We got the frame up and then decided we needed to move the pipe heater. Would have been easier to do that first but managed to get tractor in place to lift it up and move it. I came home that evening but Kevin spent the night along with Kyle who came up later.  On Sunday they put the tin on. We are going to close part of it in but not untill we can reclaim some wood. Osb and plywood is crazy high.  Kevin also did a little dirt work and smoothed out the front of the camp area.   On Sunday Susan and I went to watch volley ball with Sammi. It was their last tournament of the Houston Power League pool play. We played our best game of the year in the first game which we won. Then we played our worst game of the year which we lost.  Their are 57 12 year old teams in the HPL.  I think we finished about 28 in the ranking , so we did okay but underachieved  at times.

Its wood, but higher than gold

Finished for now

March 20, 2022 Another Good Day on the Lake.

This was the first day of Spring. it was about 46 when I got up around 5:30. Not much wind blowing either. At daybreak I took my walk making about two miles. It was a nice sunrise on the water. After everyone got up I cooked a big breakfast. We sat outside on the porch most of the day. We took a golf cart ride around the area just looking. Later in the day we started watching the NCAA tournament again. Around 4 pm Belinda and her parents showed up, They are staying the week here with Susan. Mike Templeton helped unloading them, pretty amazing how much stuff could be packed in a suv car. Lavonna and Susan fixed us a big supper of baked potatos and pulled pork and all kinds of desserts. I couldnt make past 9;30 as I went to bed.

March 19, 2022 A Nice Quiet Day

It was pretty cool when I got up this morning , both inside and out. I didn"t turn the heat on last night so it was about 62 in the house and around 42 outside. The lake had a foggy mist over it most of the morning. I did sit outside for a little bit with the little propane fire pit going. After breakfast I took a walk of about 2 miles. We watched the NCAA tournament for awhile. Mike and Lavonna made it up here. We pretty much just chilled and visited all day, pretty relaxing.

March 18, 2022 Made it to the Lakehouse

After Kevin took the boys , we headed up to the lake house. We went in two vehicles as I am coming home Monday and Susan is staying untill Thursday. It turned out to be a very pretty day with lots of sunshine and wind.  After I got there and unloaded I mowed the yard. Its the first time in 3 years I"ve mowed with something other than my zero turn, This little John Deere yard tractor made me appreciate my mower.   After that I started to figure out the tv controls, Which remote and what buttons to push.  After that chore I just relaxed .  Them grandsons were very good but they wore out this ole man.  For supper we went to a little Mexican food place in Trinity. It was our first time there and it was very good, we will return there again. Next up was buying grocerys at Brookshire Brothers and then going to Riverside and getting some link sausage at Talents, who has bbq and good sausage.  Finally we got back and settled in for the night. I was wore out and hit the bed early.

March 17-18 Spring Break Day 6&7

Thursday was pretty much a repeat performance of yesterday. We had plans to go to the Houston Interactive Aquarium and Animal Preserve but one of our friends had gone on Monday and said because of Spring Break it was extremely crowded so I decided its a no go. The boys pretty much played outside all day. They made themselves a little camp in the front pasture under a big cedar tree. They dragged all kinds of limbs to fix them a nice little spot. For supper we ate all the leftovers we had from the week. After baths they had ice cream and Luke played on his tablet till Bed time. Peyton stayed with Nana in her sewing room , he is fascinated by all the things in there.

Friday morning the boys got up around 6:45.  We are not doing anything outside this morning as it rained last night.  We are going to wash clothes and pack up. Kevin is going to pick them up and take them to their other Grandmother .    We are headed to the the lake (Kristis lakehouse) for the weekend. We have some friends joining us.  I"m coming home Monday morning but Susan is have a mini quilt retreat at the lakehouse till Thursday.

March 16, 2022 Spring Break Day 5

Luke is an early riser , he was up this morning at 6:20. Peyton slept till about 7:35.  After breakfast we went to visit great-granma and then headed to the city park. They played there for about an hour and then we went to walmart and headed on home. They pretty much played outside all day. Since it had rained they were able to find some mud holes to get in. I gave Peyton another lesson driving the Ranger around the pasture, he is getting the hang of it now. For supper we got domino's pizza. They went to bed pretty easy tonight as they were tired.

March 15 Spring Break Day 4

We had a little front blow thru last night and got some rain with it.  That hindered our outside activities. Luke got up bright and early around 6:20 but Peyton slept till about 7:30.  They watched tv till breakfast time. Since it was too wet to go outside I let them play games on my tablets.  We decided to go to the movies in Baytown for the 11:40 show. Snacks at the movies cost way more than the tickets. When we got home they just played on tablets till supper. We had hamburgers for supper and then had a fire in the chimanea on the back porch. Things are drying out so tomorrow they should be able to play outside all day without becoming mud bugs.

March 14, 2022 Spring Break Day 3

Them boys didnt sleep to late this morning, they were up about 6:35. They watched a little tv and played with their inside toys. Susan had a sewing group meeting so she was up early and gone. After breakfast the boys headed outside to play.  After a couple of hours Luke came in to watch tv. Peyton and I got our little John Deere yard tractor and the dump trailer, we went around the yard picking up dead limbs. We filled our chiminea full so we could have a fire tonight. After lunch we we went riding on the Ranger, I started teaching Peyton to drive. We held on for dear life as he learned to handle the throttle and brakes smoothly. I had video but for some reason I can"t download it to this blog. He got pretty good and I suspect by the end of the week he will be ready to drive me around at the deer lease.  We didn't get to have a fire that evening as we started to get a little rain, They did go to bed pretty easy so maybe the running hard all day is finally catching up with them.

Luke can sit in the strangest positions for hours

Luke is hanging on

March 13, 2022 Spring Break Day 2

Well time changed last night so we sprang forward. By the new time I slept late as it was 6:15 when I got up. By 6:30 Peyton and Luke were up and ready to roll. They watched tv and played with their leggos untill Susan got up around 8.  We had breakfast and then went to town to see great gran-ma. They stayed with her while I went and bought her groceries. Greg and Pam came by and visited while we were there.  We got back home around noon. The boys stayed outside the rest of the day playing and then following their Uncle Kevin around. He had been at the deer lease for a couple of days. For supper we had hot dogs . They went to bed pretty easy. It was another gorgeous day and I think tomorrow will be also.

March 12, 2022 Spring Break Day 1

I got up early and went to Bryan to pick up Peyton and Luke.  It was pretty chilly around 32 with a 15 mph wind. Since it was saturday I ran 1-10 then 290 because traffic was very light.   On the way back I went my normal route thru New Waverly and the National Forest. A little longer but less traffic and nice country side. As soon as we got home the boys collected their outside toy boxes and headed to their little dirt pile. The wind was too much for me but it didn"t bother them.  They pretty much stayed outside all day playing in the dirt and riding their bikes.  After lunch they did break out their leggos to play inside with. When supper was over they watched a little tv. Peyton hung with Nana in her sewing rooms He is fascinated watching the sewing machines run. Bath time came and then they settled on the couch and played on their tablets for awhile.  It took awhile for them to settle down for bed time. Lots of energy still. Tomorrrow ,I"ll get them up early and run them hard all day and they should wear down a little.

Chilling before bed time

They love leggos

March 5 2022 Final Full Day at Canton

It was a very cloudy morning with lots of wind. The temperature was around 62 so pretty nice. We made our final morning shopping spree. I knew that there would be more folks today since it was Saturday. They started rolling in and filled up the parking.  We stopped at Jerry Malones booth and visitied with her for awhile. We then left and got lunch at a little Cajun place. They had good gumbo and cornbread. After that we headed to all the outside vendors. We found a few items to buy and then headed back to trailer. We both took a little nap. We then got in the truck and wound our way thru little roads and people to pick up the planters we bought. Luckily the lady told us an easier way to get back. Jamie and Belinda also had to drive to a couple of places to pick their treasures up. They came back to the trailer and we started Happy Hour and I cooked hamburgers for supper. It was a nice evening.  Tomorrow we head home.
