August 14 2015 Home Sweet Home

We both slept a little late this morning. We were both wore out from driving 6 hrs yesterday and then playing with Peyton and Luke all evening. We finally got on the road  and had an easy ride home. We stopped in New Waverly and had breakfast. We got home about 12. It was pretty hot. We unloaded a few things and decided to wait until morning when its cooler. All in all we are glad to be home.

August 13 We made it to Bryan

We got up and headed to Bryan today. It was about a 6 hour drive. The country from Abilene to Byran could really use some rain. It was 101 when we got to Bryan. For the first time in a couple of months I broke a sweat setting the trailer up.Yea, we are back in Texas. We went and spent the evening at Kyles playing with Peyton and Luke. They sure are growing.

August 12 2015 A Day Of Rest

I must have really been tired last night. I slept till 7 this morning. I haven’t done that in years. Anyway I got up and drank my coffee outside.  It was a nice morning. Maggie and I took a little walk and we saw a few deer. Susan slept till after 8. She joined me outside. It was about 81 but the humidity is low so it still felt good. After a while we cleaned up and went to Abilene and had breakfast.  We stopped at the grocery store and picked up steak and potatoes for supper. We just chilled the rest of the evening.

August 11 2015 Hello Texas

It rained all night. The power blinked off about 4 times. I woke up about 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. After tossing and turning for about 30 minutes I got up and made coffee. It was just barely drizzling outside. Susan got up about 6:30. We got on the road about 7:15.  It was a much longer day than I wanted. We made it to Abilene State Park at about 3:30pm.  It was 101 degrees when we got there.  Welcome back to Texas.

August 10 2015 Travel Day Rain Wind Hail

I actually slept late this morning. It was 7 before I got up. Susan got up at about 7:30. We got everything together and pulled out about 8:30. I really wanted to eat breakfast at my favorite little place but I wasn’t hungry. We headed on down the road. It was an easy drive. We stopped in a little community called Roy and at breakfast at Annette’s CafĂ©. (Only place in town)  Everyone in there spoke to us as we came in. We were the only non-locals in there. We had a good breakfast and headed on our way. We stopped at Ute Lake State Park for the night. It’s a nice little lake in the middle of nowhere. Later we had a tremendous thunderstorm with wind and hail. It was so loud in the trailer you couldn’t think. Since we have no cell service and of course satellite tv went out we couldn’t track anything.  The park does have wi-fi but it is weak.  When the storm let up we drove up to the park headquarters to get a good signal. Got the weather update a little late but they were correct, nickel sized hail, 55 mph wind, 1-2 inches of rain.  Hope it quiets down tonight.

August 9 2015 Our Last Day in Eagle Nest NM

Gosh, it was another beautiful morning. We piddled around and talked with our neighbor's from Texas.  We left and headed to Red River. We ate breakfast at a little Mexican place. They had pretty good burritos. We left there and took another mountain drive. It was a better maintained road than yesterday. We did find some dispersed camping but the sites too small for us. The road got pretty narrow towards the top of the mountain. We finally found a place I could turn around in and headed back down. We headed back to the trailer and chilled for awhile. We went into Angel Fire for supper. I had been craving a pizza so we found a nice place that had really good pizza. We left there and went to the grocery store . We picked up a few items and fueled up the truck. Back at the trailer we built a fire and had happy hours. Our neighbors Jim & Barbra came over and we visited until dark. We sure hate to leave this place but tomorrow we will start heading to Texas.

August 8 2015 A Ride in the Country

About 11 last night the wind woke me It was really blowing. My awning was tied down but it was taking a beating. I got up and put it down and put our chairs up Back to bed I went but took awhile to go back to sleep. When I got up in the morning the wind wasn't blowing and we got no rain. My neighbor said he thought his trailer was going to turn over. We decided to go eat breakfast and then explore some back country. We ate at a little cafe. They just had one cook and one waiter. It sure wasn't fast food but it was one of the best breakfasts I have had. I had a ham & cheese omelet smothered in green chili sauce. I put it on my potato's and even my toast. Think I may eat there again tomorrow. We then headed up a county road. We went 11 miles until we ran into a gate across the road. We had to turn around and go back.It was a rough gravel road, pretty narrow in places. It took us 35 minutes to go that 11 miles. It was a pretty drive thru a canyon. After going back home I took a little nap. The wind woke me up again. We went back into town so Susan could shop a couple shops that were closed when we there before. We went back to the trailer and watched Tv the rest of the night. The wind was just blowing too much to sit outside.

August 7 2015 Angel Fire and Red River

It was a cold morning this morning, I don't know how cold because when we moved yesterday I forgot my thermometer which was on my trailer tire. I did find it later but it was kind of flat. Anyway I made almost all summer with it and that's a record for me. We went into Angel Fire for breakfast. At first the little cafe we were in was not quite what I expected. There breakfast menu was very strange. As luck would have it they had a special with eggs, sausage and beignets. It turned out really good and I would go back. We left there and traveled to Coyote Creek State Park. While we were not impressed with the park it was a pretty drive. We headed back to the trailer for awhile. We drove to Red River and walked the streets there doing a little shopping. After that we headed home and relaxed the rest of the evening.

August 5 2015 Cimarron Canyon

It was another beautiful morning here.We just sat around most of the morning just enjoying. We decided to drive thru Cimarron Canyon today. It is a very pretty drive. When we got to the little town of Cimarron we stopped at a couple of old shops and looked around for awhile. We headed back to Eagle Nest and ate lunch, then did little shopping there. A lot of places are closed as this is much more a winter attraction. There may be more shops open on the weekend. After Susan finished her shopping we headed back home for the evening.

August 4 2015 Driving the Enchanted Circle

Dadgum it was brisk when I got up, about 42 degree. I put the furnace on and took Maggie on a little walk. Dispersed camping has spoiled me as I can just turn Maggie loose and I can start my generator anytime. Most campgrounds here have quiet time from 6am to 10 pm. I have been trying to sleep later but 6:30 has been as late as I can do. Anyway we had a beautiful morning. We decided to drive the Enchanted Circle. This makes big loop thru the ski areas.  We left Eagle Nest and went thru Red River,Questa,Taos, and Angel Fire. It is a very scenic drive. When we got back we just relaxed around camp. There are lots of prairie dogs here and they just run around in the grass and bark.Maggie would love to chase them.I did some deer down by the lake. Susan set up her machine outside and did some sewing. It warmed up to about 75 degrees;.

August 3 2015 We moved to Eagle Nest, New Mexico

For the second morning in a row I heard coyotes running when I got up. So far we haven't seen any critters. The hummingbirds will be sad to see us leave. We had about 5 coming to our feeder. We pulled out about 8:30. We stopped in Woodland Park and restocked groceries. We stopped in Pueblo and had breakfast. We arrived at Eagle Nest Lake State Park in New Mexico about 2. It is a small park on Eagle Lake. The lake is about 11 ft low but it is still pretty. We had no idea about this place but it is in a valley about 8200 ft. We will be here for 3 nights.

August 2 2015 Our Last Day Here

It was the warmest morning we have had in a while. It was about 56 degrees. I built a nice fire and we sat outside for most of the morning. We started picking up things as we are moving tomorrow. I sure hate to leave this place; the only drawback is no internet service. It stayed overcast all day and it never got above 65. Susan did some sewing and I just piddled.  Come evening I built our last fire here. One of our best evenings with very little wind. I smothered some potatos and grilled steak for supper.  We head to northern New Mexico tomorrow.

We are camped in those mountains above the lake about 9100 ft

August 1 2015 Just a slow Day

It was a cold morning in the mid-forties. It felt still damp from the rains last night. There wasn’t much wind so I built a nice fire. We headed down the mountain and had breakfast in Florissant. After that Susan found a few shops to check out. We left and drove to Hartsel where they had a little festival going. We then headed back home and chilled the rest of the evening.
