June 30 2015 A Beautiful Morning and an Evening Hailstorm

The day started off pretty normal. It was about 50 outside and clear blue skies. We didn’t do much early but decided to restock a few groceries at the Walmart in Woodland Park.  On the way back we ate lunch in town. After we got home I decided to fill our water tank. The water bladder and pump has been one of my best investments.  Later we ran up to the visitor center and looked around. When we got back both of us took a little nap. Early evening we were sitting out under the awning. It looked like we were going to get an evening shower. Well it started out with a little pea size hail but not a lot. We thought it was going to blow over quickly.  Wrong, it started to come down faster and bigger and we scrambled inside. It hailed solid for about 20 minutes. Some hail about 50 cent size.  It broke the bathroom roof vent and damaged the bedroom Max vent. The secondary vent was ok. The awnings and slide toppers are all damaged and will have to be replaced. The truck was fine.  After it was all over we decided to go eat supper in Divide. The temperature had dropped from 74 to 43 degrees. I tied a tarp over the bath room vent. We leave tomorrow so I will make a temporary repair in the morning.
